And the world said 'no, no, no'

"I cheated myself" (You Know I'm No Good)
Camden Town looked quite sad on July 23. Her powerful, smoky voice got silenced after several battles against drugs, alcohol and self-destruction. The much-needed rehab never really came. 27-year-old British soul singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her North London flat. Her songs brought darkness, never-drying tears, Tanqueray and Stella bottles, troubled relationships, regrets and a pint of the 1960's altogether, which was the recipe of her musical grandeur.

"So this is inevitable withdrawal" (Tears Dry On Their Own)
Amy was born to a London Jewish family and grew up in a jazz-loving
Brigitte Bardot's vintage
hairdo and cat eyeliners:
unique style
atmosphere. Her father Mitch, a taxi driver,  and her uncles were really enthusiastic about music. At the age of 13, she received her first guitar and began singing.
Later on, she would gain respect at a pub in her neighbourhood. The moment she stepped on  stage, she was peerless. A blend of style and attitude. Amy has known how to hold an audience ever since. Everybody would just stop and get fascinated.
Urgent matters seem to have consumed her days. Her last show was in Serbia, this June. Clearly drunk, Amy could barely stand. The audience started to boo. It was the utter meltdown of a born diva.

"I died a hundred times" (Back to Black)
The Grammy award-winner released two albums: "Frank" (2003) and "Back to Black" (2006) and many other singles, which resulted in a wide and rich repertoire. "I'm a musician. I'm not someone who's trying to be diplomatic, you know, trying to get my 15 minutes. I'm just a musician who is honest", Amy once said. She was a hell of a singer. A singer with her own hell. And that is what made her so strong. She died a hundred times, not only last July 23. And she will keep on dying. And thus living on. "Cuz what's inside her never dies" (He Can Only Hold Her).

Play her most famous tune!

Trivia:
  •  In 2008, the website "When Will Amy Winehouse Die?" was launched. The first one to get the answer right would win an iPod Touch. 96,026 people tried. 4 were correct. The winner will be contacted by the site owner and get the prize.
  • Amy died at the age of 27. Surprisingly enough, many other musicians died at this age, including Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. They belong to the tragic '27 club'.
  • The diva could not attend 2008's Grammy Awards. The US Embassy denied her visa due to Amy's struggle with drug addiction. Her performance was broadcast via a live satellite feed from London.
